Offering childcare services to faculty, staff, and students of UT Austin’s renowned Child Development Center serves as a model program for the childcare community and students studying early childhood education and development. The stand-alone addition expands capacity to accommodate an additional 100 children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years.

BGK designed the stand-along addition for children with child-size proportions and furniture, a home-like atmosphere, sensory play, and healthy materials. The design focuses on providing flexible learning spaces that allow for physical activity, socializing, autonomy & self-expression. The project included site work accommodating existing parking, student drop-off, and outdoor learning environments with shaded landscaped play areas and a raingarden retention pond. Located just off campus on the east side of I-35, the team coordinated permitting with the City of Austin and other entities.
