About
Student Life Master Plan
The University of Texas at Austin
Austin, TX
Proposed: 175,400 sf of additional residence halls

The University of Texas at Austin Student Life Master Plan is intended to enhance campus culture that engages students and supports their success throughout their entire university experience. This plan develops ideas for Student Life capital improvements in accordance with the Campus Master Plan, explores additional ways to integrate academics and Student Life, identifies interdepartmental opportunities and efficiencies that will benefit Student Affairs as a whole, and pursues fiscally responsible and affordable strategies that benefit the University and its students.

The project also required the personal engagement of over 200 key University leaders and users. To fully engage the stakeholders in the short timeframe available, BGKA developed a detailed work plan and scheduling plan coupled with a series of design workshops that facilitate meaningful and efficient stakeholder engagement and project development.

Other challenges included strategies for maximizing land use, combining programs to realize efficiencies, identifying savings through the concept of fusion facilities and shared programs, and the need to increase campus density to maximize available resources.

Prior to this project, BGKA was hired by UT Austin to complete a Residence Halls Needs Assessment to determine the extent of demand for additional on-campus housing.
